Mark Your Calendars for the Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon and Plant Sale October 8th

Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB) invites all to the 7th Annual ‘Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon’ in conjunction with the 6th Annual Herb and Plant Sale – at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Dr., on Friday, October 8. Luncheon tickets are $30, with proceeds benefiting KPB projects and our new Environmental Education Center Building Fund.

This year’s speaker will be Brenda Beust Smith, the Houston Chronicle’s “Lazy Gardener”. Ms. Smith started her Houston Chronicle gardening column over 30 years ago, thinking that it would appeal to harried homeowners. Those time-saving “lazy” gardener techniques are today a banner for those concerned about the environment and indiscriminate use of pesticides.

She is a nationally published freelance writer, a nationally published professional photographer and has served on the boards of many area gardens. She is a longtime Harris County Cooperative Extension supporter, both as a Master Gardener and former committee chairman.

The doors to the Center will be open at 10:30am, where a silent auction will also take place in conjunction with the luncheon. Laura Austin, our auction chair, has done a great job collecting exciting gifts for this year’s auction. This year’s luncheon is being organized by our fund Development Chair, JoAnne Knodel. JoAnne has generously donated to the luncheon as a Rosemary Sponsor, in memory of her late husband Joe Miller. Joe was an avid environmentalist and faithful supporter of Keep Pearland Beautiful.

Please make your plans now to be on hand for the Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon and Plant Sale on October 8, 2010. Plants from the sale will also be available for purchase on October 9, 2010 at the Pearland Farmers Market, located at Zychlinski Park, 2243 Grand Blvd. Call 281-652-1659 for ticket or plant sale information.
