An Auspicious Arbor Day
Although it was a dreary day Saturday January 12, 2013 the Pearland Arbor Day Celebration was a big success. Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB) once again partnered with the City of Pearland and its Urban Forester John Walters to give away tree seedlings and educate citizens about proper tree care. 2013 was the first time that KPB hosted the celebration at two different locations. Mayor Tom Reid came out to both locations and proclaimed January 12, 2013 as Arbor Day and he asked, “All citizens both near and far to join with me to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands and I urge citizens to plant and care for trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.” The Mayor Reid’s call to action was answered by 195 people who took home 214 tree seedlings at the Pearland Community Center and 208 people who visited the Westside Event Center and adopted 208 trees.
