Another Successful Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon and Plant Sale

Keep Pearland Beautiful hosted the 9th Annual Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon on Friday October 12, 2012 at the Pearland Community Center. Over 170 participants enjoyed a lunch catered by Casa Ole and desserts from HEB Plus, as well as a silent auction and plant sale. The luncheon raised over $20,000 and all proceeds from the Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon will go towards the Joe Miller Environmental Scholarship and education programs at the future Delores Fenwick Nature Center.

This year, our guest speaker at the Plant Thyme Fall Luncheon was Chet Garner, host of the acclaimed PBS show the Daytripper. Having spent the better part of his post-college years travelling the world and seeing the sites, Chet decided to discover the beauty and wonder that is Texas, turning his adventures on the road into the background for his show The Daytripper.

Chet Garner spoke about his amazing adventures while challenging his audience to discover Pearland. There is no doubt that we live in an amazing city with many great spots to eat, shop, and relax, and in my opinion, a city is not worth beautifying or cleaning up if it isn’t worth enjoying. We may not have the Eiffel Tower or the Great Pyramids, but we do have great places to spend the afternoon.

Recently, the City of Pearland, with donations from Keep Pearland Beautiful, unveiled the Project STARS monument along Pearland Parkway. The monument serves as an entry point into the City, with a nine point Gateway Star at the top that resembles the star atop the San Jacinto Monument. Keep Pearland Beautiful has also allocated funds for a beautification grant to further landscape the monument. If you have not driven by the monument, this would be a great place to get your very own day trip started!
