Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB) hosted the 9th Annual Pocket Pear Speakeasy Party on June 10, 2017 at the Pearland Lions Club. The organization raised over $13,000 for the Joe Miller Environmental Scholarship fund.
The evening started with dinner, desserts, and 1920-era music. Showing up in their best gangster and flapper attire, Ricky and Lisa Cruz stole the show with their speakeasy attire! The Poker Tournament started off strong with players keeping a keen eye on their chip count. Cheers filled the room as Black Jacks were hit on the casino side. With the DJ playing all the right songs, a crowd pulling off their best dance moves began around the speakers. Down to the final table, last year’s winner Robert Steele went all in, winning the Poker Tournament.
“Through continued and increasing support from our community, we are honored to continue awarding scholarships to Pearland seniors who embody the term ‘environmental steward’,” Andrew Miller, Executive Director, said. Scholarship winners range from students who volunteered many hours helping keep Pearland beautiful to those who have started a non-profit organization, working to reduce waste and better our environment. Madison Segovia, a 2016 scholarship winner says, “I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to have these experiences without the help of Keep Pearland Beautiful and the generous scholarship that I received from the organization.” Attending Texas State University, she states, “I am proud to be a Bobcat that is reducing my paw print and I am so thankful to represent Keep Pearland Beautiful!”
