Keep Pearland Beautiful (KPB) will host the 10th Annual Pocket Pear Speakeasy Party on June 16, 2018 at the Pearland Lions Club. KPB’s goal is to raise $15,000 for the Joe Miller Environmental Scholarship fund and Keep Pearland Beautiful programs. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors in Pearland.
The evening will start with dinner, desserts, and 1920-era music. After dinner the games will begin! You will have a choice to participate in the Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament or enjoy other casino games including Black Jack and Roulette. To set the mood for the evening we will have ‘The Traveling Murpheys’ performing 1920’s era music and a wide array of other music. Drinks will be provided by Del Papa Distributing and the wine pull is sure to bring you a great bottle for the evening. There will be door prizes, a raffle and silent auction, where you are sure to take home something to remember the evening!
“Through continued and increasing support from our community, we are honored to continue awarding scholarships to Pearland seniors who embody the term ‘environmental steward’,” Andrew Miller, Executive Director, said. Scholarship winners range from students who volunteered many hours helping keep Pearland beautiful to those who have started a non-profit organization, working to reduce waste and better our environment. Madison Segovia, a 2016 scholarship winner says, “I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to have these experiences without the help of Keep Pearland Beautiful and the generous scholarship that I received from the organization.” Attending Texas State University, she states, “I am proud to be a Bobcat that is reducing my paw print and I am so thankful to represent Keep Pearland Beautiful!”
KPB hosts the Pocket Pear each year in honor of the late Joe Miller, an avid environmentalist who volunteered his time to Keep Pearland Beautiful as well as several other community organizations. Scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors in Pearland who demonstrate good stewardship of the environment and are pursuing higher education. In 10 years, a total of $72,000 in scholarships has been awarded. This year, a total of $13,000 has been awarded to six high school graduates from Pearland.
