Recycling is easy. But Perhaps we are too entrenched in the world of “green” living, maybe we here at KPB have lost touch with how difficult it is to make decisions about recycling.
At the latest City of Pearland 4th of July Celebration a lot of what we call solid waste was put into dumpsters and from there will end up in a landfill. This happened despite the placement of recycling containers next to the trash receptacles (landfill cans). As a community we need to start using the recycling bins more!
There wasn’t a lot of trash in the recycling containers (some french fries, but overall it was fairly clean). At an event like this the key to successful recycling is sharing with the public what you want in each container. The trash receptacles should have contained soiled paper, polystyrene (#6 plastics like foam cups and bowls) and food. The recycling containers should have had everything else in it (clean paper & cardboard, plastic bottles & containers, glass bottles, and aluminum cans).
