Before buying your Christmas Tree this winter please consider the environment and buy one without flocking and leave the tinsel off the tree this year. There will again be two options for recycling your tree.
Recycling Carts in Some Neighborhoods
The City of Pearland has selected neighborhoods/subdivisions to participate in a three (3) month cart recycling pilot program beginning immediately. Over the past two years, the City of Pearland, along with its contractor for garbage/recycling, Waste Management, has enhanced recycling services, by implementing simple and efficient single-stream curb side recycling collection. Residents have been able to combine recyclables into a single container and reduce the amount of waste sent to area landfills. The current container is 18-gallons, but more is needed to be done to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill and streamline the recycling process.
Waste Management has agreed to carry out this pilot program and will temporarily provide; at no additional cost; a 96-gallon roll-out cart for curbside recycling.
The advantages of this new cart include:
- More capacity for recycling (4 times more than current container)
- Carts are maneuverable and easy to roll
- Carts feature large wheels and do not need to be lifted and carried
- The carts have lids, which will reduce litter, odors, animals and insect problems
The program begins as soon as you get your cart. Your recycling day will remain the same collection day of the week as it currently is (click here to look up your address) and other garbage services will remain the same throughout the pilot program. The carts should be placed on the street/curb by 7 a.m. on your recycling day with the front of the cart facing the street and the handle/wheels on the back side of the cart.
The City will conduct surveys and solicit feedback during the program regarding participation rates, customer satisfaction with the program, and the size of cart to determine/recommend if the program should be implemented city wide.
