Curbside HHW ‘On Demand’ Pickup Service

Beginning October 3, 2011, Waste Management, the city’s contractor for solid waste and recycling services will begin collecting residential Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) at your curbside by appointment. This new opportunity will help residents dispose of HHW safely, easily and responsibly. HHW curbside service is provided to City residents with UNLIMITED visits throughout the year. Your FREE pick up service must be scheduled with Waste Management. HHW curbside pickup service is by appointment ONLY.

To participate, residents MUST contact
the Waste Management Call Center to schedule the collection date/time.
Call Center Hours: Monday – Friday 6am to 6pm
Email – [email protected]

The customer service representative at Waste Management will give detailed instructions on how to package and secure the waste items for pickup service, using kit bags that they will mail directly to your home. The call center will also determine the appropriate pick up place outside of your residence. Please keep in mind that the service technicians will not be allowed to enter your home to collect the waste. Should any of your wastes be determined unacceptable for pick up (leaking, unlabeled or determined as commercial waste), you will receive a notice in person, by phone or by a door hanger with an explanation of the problems noted.

Helpful Tips for a Successful HHW Collection

  • All containers must be labeled. Waste Management will provide labels if you have items in unlabeled containers
  • If you need waste collected that is not identified, you can request a visit from a technician to identify and collect these items. Contact the call center to assist with those requests
  • NO leaking waste accepted
  • Place all collection items INSIDE your kit bag, provided by Waste Management (exceptions include, car batteries, large electronics, and fluorescent tubes)
  • HHW must be left outside your home, technicians will not enter your home for collection
  • Fluorescent bulbs must be secured together, i.e. taped or tied
  • In the event you have more waste for collection than fits into the provided kit bag, you can always schedule additional pick up services. Waste Management provides this service throughout the year with unlimited visits
