Designers entering the Recycle Runway competition will create wearable art made of items destined for the landfill or recycling. Participants will become knowledgeable about problems associated with waste generation and then express them through fashion and artistic design.
The deadline to enter has been extended to July 6, 2015. The garment does not have to be completed until the photo shoot on Aug 1, 2015 and the designer does not have to be the model.
Wilder Elementary School Plastic Bag Recycling Winners
Every year leading up to Earth Day, April 22 Keep Pearland Beautiful and HEB Plus! partner to sponsor a plastic bag recycling contest at area elementary schools that are willing to participate. This year Alvin ISD Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary School in Pearland did an outstanding job collecting plastic bags. On April 28, 2014 KPB and HEB Plus! Anna Bryant and her coworkers picked up bags of bags.
The school collected a whopping total of 48,654 shopping BAGS!!!!! A first grade class taught by Ms. Sarah Bradford won the school contest by collecting and counting 5891 plastic bags. Plastic bags are recyclable but NOT in your curbside bin or cart!
